Why would you want them to be scared away? That's the point of the mouse trap to kill the mice.
You should never let mice roam your house and should get rid of mice as soon as possible. They carry all sorts of diseases and leave mice droppings over everything as well as chew things up even your house wiring which can be dangerous.
Kill the mice don't set them free.
