It's much better to cover a wound with a bandage or something else to keep it moist and promote faster healing.

You can apply some Vaseline to the wound which will prevent it from becoming infected and will also keep the wound moist which is beneficial to speeding up the healing process.

Using Vaseline on the wound can also prevent a scab from covering the wound so you won't have to deal with a scab.
