An ADHD meltdown looks like extreme irritability, screaming, crying, verbal aggression, self harm, complete withdrawal or shutting down.

ADHD meltdowns are uncontrollable, intense and sudden emotional or physical outbursts that stem from being overwhelmed, instead of just a conscious desire to misbehave.

The 5 signs of ADHD are difficulty in waiting their turn, poor organizational skills, impulsivity, extreme restlessness and persistent inattention.

These behaviors are often chronic and developmentally inappropriate for the child's age and can interfere with the child's functioning at school or home.

Persistent inattention and distractibility is a common sign of ADHD in children and is when a child struggles to focus on tasks and even play, seems to not listen, frequently loses items like toys, pencils, homework, crayons, and makes careless mistakes.

Hyperactivity or constant motion is also a sign of ADHD in children and is when the child cannot remain still for long and is always on the go, frequently fidgets, squirms or can't stay seated in class or at the dinner table.

A child with ADHD can also have impulsive behavior and the child with ADHD will act or speak without thinking, interrupt conversations, struggle to wait their turn in games, and may run into the street without looking.

Children with ADHD also have trouble following directions and instructions like multi step directions, and often start tasks, but not finish the tasks due to losing focus.

And a child with ADHD often has frequent outbursts, low frustration tolerance and irritability, which is often a result of feeling overwhelmed.

If these behaviors in your child are severe, persistent and cause problems in multiple settings like school or home, the child should see a pediatrician.

ADHD also known as attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder is a common neurodevelopmental disorder originating in childhood, characterized by persistent inattention, hyperactivity, and impulsivity that interfere with functioning.

ADHD is often managed with a combination of medication, behavioral therapy, and lifestyle strategies, as it can cause significant difficulties in daily, professional, and academic life.
