What is a red flag behavior for a 2 year old?

The red flag behavior for a 2 year old are loss of previously learned skills, extreme and or tantrums that are not soothable, speech delays like under 50 words or no 2 word phrases, not responding to name and no social engagement and no eye contact.

Other red flag behaviors for a 2 year old are, not able to eat with a spoon, not copying of words, not understanding simple instructions, severe aggression, repetitive actions, concerning behaviors and intense fixations.

The symptoms of behavioral issues in a 2 year old are loss of previously learned skills, social withdrawal, extreme defiance, persistent aggression, including biting and or hitting and intense frequent tantrums that are hard to soothe or stop.

2 year old's having some tantrums and issues with behavior are normal, although they can also become more severe and aggressive in 2 year old's that are having behavioral issues.

The normal tantrums and behavioral issues in 2 year old's also known as the terrible two's are usually easy to manage and are short.

But sometimes a 2 year old may have more severe behavioral issues.

A toddler that has behavioral issues beyond the normal toddler behavior issues include.

Extreme rigidity, which is when the 2 year old has intense distress over minor changes in their routine.

Social and or emotional disconnection, like lack of eye contact, withdrawal from social interaction or extreme fearfulness.

Inability to self regulate and showing no signs of learning to manage their emotions, like remaining inconsolable for long periods of time.

Loss of skills, like a sudden loss of motor, language or social skills or regression.

Extreme defiance, like constant refusal to comply with simple rules or authority figures.

Violent tantrums, and meltdowns that are long lasting, frequent and impossible to soothe that often result in self injury or even destruction of properly.

And persistent aggression, like regular, intense and hitting, biting or kicking that hurts others and is unprovoked.

Picky eating, sleep struggles and difficulty sharing and normal tantrums are common toddler behavioral issues.

However if the behavioral issues are disrupting daily life, like the toddler getting kicked out of daycare or if you feel overwhelmed or the toddler is hurting others or themselves, you should consult with the toddlers pediatrician as early intervention and therapy can help address any potential underlying issues.
