Can low oil cause a misfire?

If your engine oil level is low you do need to top the engine oil off so that it's full because low oil could damage the engine if it gets low enough.

But having a low oil level in your engine should not cause an engine misfire or check engine light to come on.

Some causes of a misfire are, bad spark plug, bad spark plug wires, low compression, low fuel pressure, bad ignition coil etc.

Even a faulty fuel cap or a fuel cap that's not on tight enough could cause a check engine light to come on.
