Land biomes are called terrestrial biomes and are determined by climate mainly.

At a basic level, most of Earth's land area can be called either forest, desert or grassland and these vegetation types are also a response to moisture availability and if an area is always wet, then a forest will grow.

It's been discovered that there are numerous types of biomes throughout the world, which range from Tropical rainforests, Temperate Forests, Deserts, Tundra, Grassland and Savanna and tropical grassland.

Biomes are large scale, distinct geographical regions that are characterized by specific climates as well as soil types, vegetation and adapted animal life.

Biomes are divided into 2 primary types of biomes which include aquatic or water biomes and terrestrial or land biomes.

The major biomes are deserts, forests, tundra, grasslands as well as aquatic ecosystems like freshwater and oceans.

Climate acts as the main driver of biomes.

In simple terms, biomes are areas of the planet with a similar climate and landscape, where similar animals and plants live. Some of the world's main biomes include rainforest, desert, savannah, grassland, woodland and tundra.

Each biome has characteristics that make it unique, for example Alaska is a type of tundra.

The key factors determining climate are average annual precipitation (rainfall) and temperature.

These factors, in turn, depend on the geography of the region, such as the latitude and altitude of the region, and mountainous barriers.

Examples of biomes are aquatic, grassland, forest, desert, and tundra, though some of these biomes can be further divided into more specific categories, such as freshwater, marine, savanna, tropical rainforest, temperate rainforest, and taiga.

Aquatic biomes include both freshwater and marine biomes.

An ecosystem is smaller in comparison to a biome as a biome can be widely distributed all through the earth.

Unlike an ecosystem, a biome is strongly influenced by its physical factors, such as climatic conditions such as snow, temperature, rainfall etc.
