The amount of biomes that are on earth is 5 to 14 major biomes.

The 5 major biomes on earth are Aquatic (marine/freshwater biomes), desert, forest, grassland and Tundra.

The 7 major biomes are the Tundra, Shrubland, Rainforest, Grassland, Desert, Temperate Deciduous Forest and Coniferous Forests.

And the 14 biomes include specific distinctions like Tropical/Subtropical Moist broadleaf forests, Mediterranean Forests, Woodlands, Scrub and Montane Grasslands.

The major biomes include the tundra, boreal forest (taiga), temperate coniferous forest, temperate broadleaf/deciduous forest, tropical/subtropical forest, grassland (savanna and temperate), shrubland, desert, and Mediterranean/chaparral.

Biomes are massive, distinct ecological areas defined by their climate, soil, flora, and fauna, classified into five major types: Aquatic, Grassland, Forest, Desert, and Tundra.

These are ecosystems that are shaped by precipitation and temperature and range from the equator to the poles.

The tundra are extremely cold, dry and treeless arctic or alpine regions.

The boreal forest/Taiga are cold forests in subarctic regions and are dominated by coniferous trees.

Temperate Coniferous Forests are forests that have mild climates and high precipitation, and is often dominated by needle leaf trees.

Temperate Broadleaf and Mixed Forest are regions with 4 distinct seasons that feature trees that lose leaves in winter.

Tropical and Subtropical Moist Broadleaf Forests are hot, humid rainforests with high biodiversity.

Tropical and Subtropical Dry Broadleaf Forest are forests in regions that experience a pronounced dry season.

Tropical and Subtropical Grasslands, Shrublands and Savannas are hot, arid or semiarid regions that are dominated by grass with scattered trees.

Deserts and Xeric Shrublands are extremely arid regions with very little rainfall and specialized vegetation.

Mediterranean Forests, Woodlands and Scrub (Chaparral) are temperate areas with hot, dry summers as well as rainy and mild winters.

Montane Grasslands and Shrublands are high altitude grasslands and shrublands that are found in mountain ranges.

And flooded grasslands and Savannas are wetlands that are inundated with water, like swamps and marshes.

The seven land biomes are tropical rainforests, temperate forests, deserts, tundra, taiga or boreal forests and grasslands and savanna.

Land biomes are called terrestrial biomes and are determined by climate mainly.

At a basic level, most of Earth's land area can be called either forest, desert or grassland and these vegetation types are also a response to moisture availability and if an area is always wet, then a forest will grow.

It's been discovered that there are numerous types of biomes throughout the world, which range from Tropical rainforests, Temperate Forests, Deserts, Tundra, Grassland and Savanna and tropical grassland.

Biomes are large scale, distinct geographical regions that are characterized by specific climates as well as soil types, vegetation and adapted animal life.

Biomes are divided into 2 primary types of biomes which include aquatic or water biomes and terrestrial or land biomes.

The major biomes are deserts, forests, tundra, grasslands as well as aquatic ecosystems like freshwater and oceans.

Climate acts as the main driver of biomes.

In simple terms, biomes are areas of the planet with a similar climate and landscape, where similar animals and plants live. Some of the world's main biomes include rainforest, desert, savannah, grassland, woodland and tundra.

Each biome has characteristics that make it unique, for example Alaska is a type of tundra.

The key factors determining climate are average annual precipitation (rainfall) and temperature.

These factors, in turn, depend on the geography of the region, such as the latitude and altitude of the region, and mountainous barriers.

Examples of biomes are aquatic, grassland, forest, desert, and tundra, though some of these biomes can be further divided into more specific categories, such as freshwater, marine, savanna, tropical rainforest, temperate rainforest, and taiga.

Aquatic biomes include both freshwater and marine biomes.

An ecosystem is smaller in comparison to a biome as a biome can be widely distributed all through the earth.

Unlike an ecosystem, a biome is strongly influenced by its physical factors, such as climatic conditions such as snow, temperature, rainfall etc.
