A 911 dispatcher and operator needs to have a great typing speed along with great accuracy when typing at the required speed.

When you're a dispatcher you'll be given information by both the caller and the police or other emergency crew and you'll need to type in this information fast to get the services on their way and to communicate between the emergency services.

You need to type between 80 to 90 words per minute to become a 911 operator and of course the faster typing speed the better.

You'll get on the job training when you apply to be a 911 operator and you must be able to multi task, and focus with a lot of other distractions.
