The most common hourly pay for a 911 operator is $19.00 per hour but can range from as low as $12.00 per hour when starting out and can go as high as $29.00 per hour in some places.
A 911 operators job is very stressful and demanding and you must be well versed in some medical procedures such as CPR etc to be able to tell the caller what needs to be done while the Ambulance or police is being dispatched and on their way to you.
They must be fast at typing as well and multitasking because they must talk to you and keep calm and try to keep you calm while inputting the details into the computer system and dispatching the police, fire department, Ambulance etc.
My sister tried to work as a 911 operator and she only lasted a year before she quit once they found someone else to take her place as she just could not deal with the stress it took to be a 911 operator and you have to do a lot of sitting as well.
