Why does my push lawn mower stall after starting it?

My push lawn mower has been sitting since spring mowing season and I tried to start it today to mow down some leaves and mulch the leaves and the mower starts but then after a few seconds the engine stalls and dies out?

What could cause my push mowers engine to start stalling a few seconds after starting it?

It ran fine during mowing season but now after sitting it doesn't want to stay running anymore.

Not sure how your carburetor is setup on the push lawn mower but if it has a bowl on the bottom of the carburetor then you may need to remove that carburetor bowl and clean the carburetor out as it may have some old varnished gas in it.

The carburetor may have the main jet clogged as well which prevents fuel from getting into the carburetor when it should.

If the carburetor sits on top of the gas tank then the pickup tubes that are in the tank could be clogged and need cleaned.
