It's OK if you accidentally swallow a little bit of benzocaine throat spray, although if you swallow too much of the benzocaine throat spray it could cause serious side effects, especially in children.

Some side effects of swallowing benzocaine throat spray include irritation of skin, swelling, stinging, burning and even skin rash.

Swallowing a small amount of benzocaine throat spray, while not ideal, likely won't cause any harm other than some possible temporary side effects.

Avoid swallowing the benzocaine throat spray though and spit it out after you're done.

You can drink water after spraying throat spray, but you should wait at 30 minutes after spraying throat spray before drinking , to ensure that the throat spray has enough time to work, especially if it's numbing throat spray.

And avoid accidentally swallowing the throat spray and after waiting 30 minutes, you can take a small sip of some cold water to check that your swallowing reflex has returned to normal and if your swallowing reflex returned to normal you can resume drinking and eating as normal.

To use throat spray without gagging, hold the throat spray nozzle farther away from your mouth.

And most throat sprays are supposed to be sprayed once directly to the back of your throat.

To use the throat spray, point the nozzle of the throat spray at the back of your throat, then spray the directed number of times and hold the throat spray in for up to 15 seconds and then spit the throat spray out.

Don't swallow the throat spray and always follow any specific dosage instructions on the label.

And avoid eating or drinking anything until any numbness goes away.

You can also make a homemade throat spray for healing sore throats by combining a strong herbal tea or even a mixture of some warm water with some apple cider vinegar, honey and salt.

Then add in something peppermint or lemon oil, which are soothing ingredients and then mix the mixture together in a spray bottle other container and then pour into a spray bottle if mixing in another container.

You can also make another simpler version of sore throat spray by mixing 1 cup of warm water with 1/8 teaspoon of salt, or if you want a more complex sore throat spray, steep some herbs such as sage and echi-nacea in hot water and then strain them before combining them with other ingredients like essential oils and honey.

If using essential oils, always use the food grade essential oils and strain the mixture before you pour it into a spray bottle and store it in the refrigerator.
