A mixing valve on a shower which is also known as a Thermostatic Mixing Valve is a valve that mixes the hot and cold water together which provides a safe and constant shower water temperature to prevent scalding or burns from having too hot of water in the shower.
Sometimes a Thermostatic Mixing Valve can go bad and then provide mostly cold water instead of the warm water you need to shower and sometimes the mixing valve just needs adjusted.
