The reason why Robitussin is bad for kids is because Robitussin contains dextromethorphan and guaifenesin which can cause serious side effects in kids, especially in kids under the age of 4.

The dextromethorphan in Robitussin can cause drowsiness, confusion, seizures and even death in children.

And the guaifenesin in Robitussin can cause diarrhea and vomiting in children and so Robitussin is not recommended children, especially for children under 4 years of age.

The side effects of dextromethorphan in children are possible drowsiness, dizziness and nausea as well as some other possible serious side effects of dextromethorphan in children which include serotonin syndrome.

Misuse of dextromethorphan is also possible and can lead to overdose.

Generally when used as directed, the dextromethorphan is often safe for most children and is often well tolerated in children when used in the proper dosages.

The most common side effects of dextromethorphan are dizziness, drowsiness, nausea, vomiting, constipation, confusion and nervousness.

The reason why dextromethorphan is not recommended for children is because of the possible toxic effects as well as the potential for abuse.

The toxic effects that could occur with dextromethorphan are nausea, dizziness, vomiting, ataxia, lethargy, slurred speech, nystagmus, urinary retention, stupor, hysteria and possible coma.

The drug dextromethorphan can in some cases also cause easy bruising, including nosebleeds and or bleeding gums.

If you or your child or someone taking dextromethorphan experiences easy bruising, nosebleeds, bleeding gums or fast or pounding heartbeats, fluttering of the chest, shortness of breath or sudden dizziness or feeling like passing out you should stop taking or giving the dextromethorphan and consult with a doctor.

The drug dextromethorphan is also known as Delsym and the recommended dosage of dextromethorphan or Delsym that is safe for kids is 15 mg to 60 mg every 12 hours as needed.

And for adults the recommended dosage of dextromethorphan or Delsym is 60 mg every 12 hours as needed.

The drug dextromethorphan or Delsym should not be given to kids under 4 years old.
