The reason why there's no Benadryl under 2 is because the Benadryl can cause serious side effects in children under 2.

The serious side effects that can occur in children under 2 from taking Benadryl include rapid heart as convulsions and it could possibly lead to death or coma.

Children under 2 years of age should not take Benadryl or similar products including cough medicines.

Mucinex is also not OK for a 2 year old as it can cause undesirable side effects.

The side effects of Mucinex in children under 6 can be serious.

Children under 4 years old should not use Mucinex.

The recommended doses of Mucinex for children 4 years and older are.

For children 4–5yrs: 2.5–5mL every 4 hours. 6–11yrs: 5–10mL every 4 hours.

In addition, some other cough and cold medicines can have serious side effects in children, especially in children younger than 6.

These side effects include such as slowed breathing and trouble breathing, which can be life-threatening, especially in infants and young children.

You can give your 2 year old honey for a cough as honey is safe for people that are over age 1 year.

Children ages 1 and older can be given 0.5 to 1 teaspoon of honey to treat their cough.

So you can give your 2 year hold 0.5 to 1 teaspoon of honey for their cough and the honey can be given to your 2 year old as is or added to some warm water, juice or other liquids.

Honey is as effective as cough syrup for most people.

Although your individual results may vary but I find that for me when I'm out of cough syrup, the honey works just as good for the cough.

A study in 2014 also found that honey was more effective than the cough suppressant "dexthromethorphan" in reducing frequency of coughs and the severity, especially in children.

And a study in 2018 also found that honey is also comparable to dexthromethorphan in relieving cough in adults as well.

The amount of honey that you should take for a cough is 1 teaspoon of honey as needed.

The amount of honey that children over age 1 can take for cough is 0.5 to 1 teaspoon of honey.

Honey can be taken by itself for the cough or added to some warm tea or warm water.

Honey can also be taken or given at bedtime to soothe the throat and reduce coughing.

Although you should never give honey to a child under 1 year old as a result of the risk of botulism.

You can take more honey than recommended if you prefer as honey won't overdose you and make you sick or cause you harm like overdose of cough syrup can.
