The reason why Gen Y was renamed to "Millennials" is because the latter term was more meaningful, as the oldest members Gen Y, came of age at the turn of the millennium.

The name "Millennials" directly links the generation to the cultural milestone of the new millennium, while "Gen Y" was simply the next letter after Gen X.

To find out what gen you are, you match your birth year to the corresponding range for Generation Alpha, Generation Z, Millennials, Generation X or Baby Boomers.

Baby Boomers were born between 1946–1964

Generation X were born between 1965–1980

Millennials were born between 1981–1996

Generation Z were born between 1997–2012

Generation Alpha were born between 2013–2025

As for Gen C, Gen C is a psychographic group as opposed to a demographic group, so there's not an age range for Gen C.

While other cohorts, such as baby boomers, Generation X, Millennials and Generation Z, are defined by age brackets.

Gen C is defined by it's member's digital lifestyle and mindset.

The five major generations include.

Traditionalists—born 1925 to 1945.
Baby Boomers—born 1946 to 1964.
Generation X—born 1965 to 1980.
Millennials—born 1981 to 2000.
Generation Z—born 2001 to 2020.

Gen Z is the newest generation, born between 1997 and 2012.

They are currently between 13 and 28 years old (nearly 69 million in the U.S.)

Members of Gen C, can be any age, which can range from young children to the elderly, as long as they are active and engaged participants in online communities, content creation, and digital communication.

While there are no strict age brackets for Gen C, many studies find that the majority of those identified as Gen C are under 35 years old.
