The reasons why Verizon is losing so many customers is due to increases in prices, reduction in discounts and perks and also the perception of declining value when compared to competitors.

Verizon has also implemented several price increases and also added new fees, which frustrated customers and made their service less competitive.

Verizon has also removed loyalty discounts and other perks from select plans, which decreased the overall value proposition for long term customers and many Verizon customers feel that Verizon's plans don't offer a good value anymore when compared to what other competitors offer.

And some of Verizon's customers also report feeling frustrated by a lack of device flexibility and in some cases, fee frustrated by the longer contract terms for device payments.

Verizon also has increased competition like from T-Mobile which have been able to attract customers by offering more attractive pricing and plans.

Verizon is in a lot of debt as Verizon currently has a total debt of nearly $146 billion dollars.

Although some analysts also point to Verizon's strong cash flow and stable credit ratings as indicators that Verizon's debt is manageable.

And in 1997, Bell Atlantic also expanded into New York and the New England states by merging with fellow Baby Bell Nynex.
