The two warning signs of carbon monoxide poisoning are headache and nausea and vomiting.

A headache is the first warning sign of carbon monoxide poisoning and so if you suddenly start feeling a headache you should get outside into the fresh air.

With carbon monoxide poisoning you may also start to feel fatigued and if you get out away from the carbon monoxide in time you might not have the nausea and vomiting.

Carbon monoxide displaces oxygen in your bloodstream which leads to headaches.

And carbon monoxide also can irritate your stomach and cause nausea and vomiting.

If you suspect carbon monoxide in your house you should get yourself and everyone out of the house and call 911 to report it.

You may need to go to the hospital for treatment, especially if the carbon monoxide poisoning is severe enough.

Open windows and let the place vent and shut off any fuel burning appliances like the stove, furnace, gas or propane water heater etc.

Other symptoms of CO or carbon monoxide poisoning are dizziness, weakness, upset stomach, chest pain and confusion.

Carbon monoxide poisoning symptoms are also described as being flu like symptoms.

And if you breathe in a lot of carbon monoxide it can make you pass out or even severe enough cases the carbon monoxide poisoning can kill you, especially if you don't get away from the carbon monoxide and seek medical attention promptly.

Common causes of carbon monoxide poisoning are use of fuel burning appliances in enclosed or in poorly ventilated spaces, poorly ventilated furnaces, poorly ventilated water heaters, blocked or clogged furnace exhaust vents, clogged or blocked water heater vents, occupational exposures etc.

During the heating season people are more at risk for carbon monoxide poisoning due to the gas burning appliances like furnace heaters or even non vented propane or gas heaters.

You should always install and have a properly working carbon monoxide detector as without the carbon monoxide detector it can be hard to detect and know you have carbon monoxide in the house or where you're residing.
