Also some couples work different hours so they may get home at a different time and need to sleep at different times as well.

A friend of mine works nights while his wife works mornings so they barely see each other except on the weekends so they don't sleep at the same times.

However on the weekends they usually go to bed at the same time each night.

Each person has his own sleep pattern. Someone falls asleep at 9 pm, and someone can't fall asleep even at one in the morning.
To fall asleep together at the same time, you need to develop the same bedtime habits.
