Why does my nose start running when I out in cold weather?

Whenever I go outside in the cold weather my nose starts running but then stops running when I get inside the house or a warm place.

Why is it that when I'm outside during the cold weather that my nose starts running and I need a tissue to blow my nose all the time while I'm outside in the cold?

Our noses work by warming and humidifying the air we breath as it travels down the lungs.

When you breath in cold dry air the nose starts increasing fluid production which helps to moisturize the air you're breathing so it protects the lung tissue that is very sensitive.

Mucus production is also sped up when breathing in cold air.

The only way to stop a running nose when out in the cold air is to cover your mouth and nose with a scarf or something so that when you breath you're breathing in warmer air instead of the cold air.

When you're inside the warm house you're breathing in warm air so that's why your nose doesn't run while in the house.
