Some reasons why you feel heavy in your chest and throat are due to cardiovascular conditions such as Angina, heart attack or even pericarditis.

Angina is chest pain as a result of reduced blood flow to the heart.

Pericarditis is inflammation of the sac surrounding your heart.

Heart attack is serious and you should seek medical attention right away.

Other conditions that can cause you to feel heavy in your chest and throat are asthma, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease or COPD and even pneumonia.

Gastrointestinal conditions like GERD or gastroesophageal reflux disease, Hiatal hernia and Esophagitis as well as anxiety, stress, muscle strain, panic attacks, hyperventilation, muscle tension, nerve compression, allergic reactions and some medications.

If you experience the heavy feeling in your chest and throat and it gets worse or does not go away and you experience other symptoms such as shortness of breath, pain that radiates to your arm, jaw or back, sweating, nausea or vomiting and dizziness or lightheadedness you should seek medical attention.

Doctors can run some tests such as electrocardiogram, chest x ray, blood tests and even an endoscopy to determine the exact cause.

In some cases the feeling heavy in your chest and throat may not be very serious and could be due to tiredness or over exerting yourself or it could be more serious.

If you've never felt this way before it's a good idea to go to the ER or urgent care to get checked out to be safe.
