Do I need a car in Jordan?

I'm traveling to Jordan for work, but I'll be staying there for a couple of days to see the country. I'm thinking about renting a car, but I'm not sure if it's worth it or if it's better to just use taxis. If you've been there, can you tell me if it's convenient and if there will be any problems with renting a car?

When I was in Jordan, I realized that it's difficult to get around without a car - buses are infrequent, and taxis are expensive. Renting a car is easier: you just get in and go wherever you need to go, whether it's into the city or to some tourist attractions.
