To keep cold out of your house you can go to hardware stores and get some shrink plastic that you place onto your windows and then you use a hair dryer on the heat setting to shrink the plastic tight over the windows and it will keep the heat inside your house and the cold outside where it belongs.

You can also put up insulated curtains or even blackout curtains to keep the cold air from getting into your house through the windows.

Also look around and see if the windows need to be caulked as caulking is really easy to do and a cheap way of stopping drafts around old windows.

When I lived in an old drafty house with drafty windows I used to put heavy blankets over the drafty windows along with the curtains which did a pretty good job at keeping the cold out of the house and kept the heat inside where it belonged.
