Why does my car smoke when I start it in the morning?

The cause of the smoke will depend on the color of the smoke that your vehicle is producing when starting it in the morning.

Blue smoke is usually a result of broken or bad piston rings and white smoke is coolant leaking past the head or head gasket and getting burnt with the fuel.

It could also be caused by the fuel/air mixture ratio being off and not burning the fuel properly when starting up.
