The Earth would not likely survive the red giant.

As the Sun expands it would engulf Mercury, Venus and very likely Earth as well.

Some recent research does suggest that there's a possibility of survival for the planets orbiting stars which have become white dwarfs.

But the Sun's mass loss during the red giant phase is considered a key factor in the fate of Earth.

The Sun will eventually become a red giant in around 500 billion years from now.

A red giant is a luminous giant star of low or intermediate mass in a late phase of stellar evolution.

The outer atmosphere is inflated and tenuous, making the radius large and the surface temperature around 5,000 K [K] or lower.

The sun becoming a red giant marks a significant stage in it's life cycle, by transitioning from a main sequence star to a much larger, cooler and more luminous star.

During the red giant stage, the Sun will dramatically expand and potentially engulf Venus, Mercury and even Earth.

The sun will remain in the red giant phase for a billion years, after which it will expel its outer layers, leaving only its hot, dense, now-dead core: a white dwarf like the one at the center of KB200414.

when the Sun becomes a red giant it will make life as we know it impossible on Earth as a result of the intense radiation and heat.
