Yes cats can safely eat cheese.
My cat shares cheese with me all the time and he's never gotten sick although the cat may become constipated so only give the cat a little bit of cheese at a time and not a whole lot and certainly not everyday.
But if your cat wants to eat some cheese and you want to give some cheese to your cat then you certainly can and safely can do so.
