You do need to remove the ground strap on a range if you're installing a 4 prong range cord or when connecting the range to an electrical power outlet.

When installing a 4 prong range cord, you often need to remove the ground strap or wire between the ground screw and the neutral terminal.

Or if the range has a ground strap or wire between the ground screw and the neutral terminal then you would need to remove it to separate the ground from the neutral.

Or if you're installing the range and the ground strap is factory installed you often also need to remove it.

To remove the ground strap from the range, loosen the ground and neutral terminal screws.

Then remove the ground strap or wire and then place the screws back in place.

If you're removing the factory installed ground strap from your range you may also need to remove the ground screw and the plate.

The ground strap is a grounding connection that helps to safely discharge any excess electricity.
