The symptoms of ascariasis are abdominal pain or discomfort, vomiting, nausea, diarrhea or bloody poop, poor growth and loss of appetite.
However many people with ascariasis don't have any symptoms at all and may have ascariasis without knowing it.
Severe symptoms of ascariasis include.
Intestinal blockage.
Weight loss.
Fatigue.
Fever.
Shortness of breath.
Wheezing or coughing.
And skin rash.
Other symptoms of ascariasis worms in poop, worms in vomit, worms in nose or worms in mouth.
Coughing up blood is also another symptom of ascariasis.
A doctor can examine the poop sample to check for the presence of any parasite eggs.
Imaging tests such as CT scan, MRI, endoscopy or X Ray can also help determine the location and number of the worms.
To prevent ascariasis you should wash your hands with soap and water before handling food.
And avoid contact with soil which may be contaminated with human feces.
