At the bottom of the Mediterranean sea is a 900 year old sword from the Crusades, Canoes, merchant vessel shipwreck that sank more than 3,000 years ago, a 6 million year old underwater canyon and a 7,000 year old road made of stone slabs that connected the island of Korcula to a sunken prehistoric settlement.

The reason why the Mediterranean Sea is so blue is because it has limited water exchange and low nutrient levels as well as a lack of abundant phytoplankton.

As a result fewer particles are available to scatter light and allow the blue wavelengths to dominate and create the clear, deep blue color of the sea.

The Mediterranean sea consists of several smaller marginal seas that include the Lonian Sea, Aegean Sea, Tyrrhenian Sea and the Alboran Sea.

The Mediterranean sea is also connected to the Atlantic Ocean through the Strait of Gibraltar and is bordered by Africa, Europe and Asia and encompasses various smaller seas within it's basin.

The waters are rough in the Mediterranean Sea, especially in the winter and fall.

The Mediterranean Sea is often calmer in the summer and can be rougher in the fall and winter as a result of winds and storms.

And the Bay of Biscay which is the western coast of Franc that extends into Spain can be very rough during the winter.

The ocean that is the Mediterranean Sea is the Atlantic Ocean through the Strait of Gibraltar.

The Mediterranean Sea is the world's largest enclosed sea that is surrounded by the continents of Asia, Africa and Europe and it's almost completely enclosed by land.

The Mediterranean sea has tides although the tides are often small.

The mean tidal range of the Mediterranean Sea is around 30 centimeters although it can be larger in some areas like the Gulf of Gabes in Tunisia and can have a tidal range of around 2 meters.

The Mediterranean seas tides are caused by the moon's and the sun's gravitational pull and by the connection to the Atlantic Ocean through the Strait of Gibraltar.

The water temperature of the Mediterranean Sea is often in the 50s and 70s throughout the year.

Although the temperatures of the Mediterranean Sea can vary greatly depending on the location and season.

In spring the water may still be a bit chilly for swimming but summertime the water would be warmer.

In the Mediterranean Sea there are not any significant Tides and sharks are also no issue.

However it's not recommended to swim in the Mediterranean Sea as it is a small and enclosed sea with violent storms, the waves do not have the room to spread and during a storm the waves have a shorter length (distance between two peaks).

The slope is way sharper as well.

If you do go swimming in the Mediterranean Sea you should always have someone with you.

The Mediterranean Sea is a sea connected to the Atlantic Ocean, surrounded by the Mediterranean Basin and almost completely enclosed by land.

The Mediterranean Sea also provides a natural maritime route, facilitating trade and communication between Europe, Asia, and Africa.

The Mediterranean Seas relatively calm waters and numerous ports allow for easier navigation compared to other bodies of water.
