Pain on the top of the foot is most commonly caused by wearing shoes that are too tight and don't allow room for your feet in the shoes.
When you wear shoes that are too tight and don't allow your feet room then the tendons that are located along the top of the foot and pull the feet upwards become inflamed which leads to the pain in the top of the foot.
You may need to get a little larger sized shoes to allow your feet some room and in the mean time you could take some pain killers if the pain in the foot is too much.
