When calling in sick with a stomach bug, simply call in and say "I have a stomach bug and will not be able to come to work today" or until I feel better.

You can also mention that you have diarrhea if you have it although you should keep the message clear and brief and don't go into too much detail.

Let your employer know about when you expect to return to work.

Make arrangements of your return to work date and offer to be available if necessary and let your employer know that they can contact you if they need anything when you're out of work.

You can have a stomach bug even without throwing up.

Stomach bugs are also called gastroenteritis.

Stomach bugs or gastroenteritis are often caused by viruses or bacteria which infect your gastrointestinal tract.

Vomiting is a common symptom of a stomach bug or gastroenteritis although it is not always something that occurs with the stomach bug.

Other symptoms of a stomach bug or gastroenteritis are fatigue, nausea, diarrhea and abdominal pain or cramping.

Some people with a stomach bug can have symptoms that can be less obvious like abdominal discomfort, upset indigestion or nausea.

And some people can have the stomach bug or stomach virus without any symptoms.

Most cases of stomach bugs go away within a week or less.

If the stomach bug doesn't go away or gets worse it may be another more serious issue that you should seek medical attention for.

Some things you can do to help you recover from the stomach bug include.

Letting the stomach settle and avoid eating solid foods for a few hours.

Try sucking on some ice chips or take small sips of water often.

Then ease back into eating and start eating bland foods until you recover.

Avoid spicy foods or greasy foods or dairy and get plenty of rest.

Taking some antacids, pepto bismol and anti diarrhea medications can also help.
