Surgery still has to be performed to replace the heart valve however a heart valve can now be done without doing open heart surgery like they used to have to do as the only option.
The way to replace a heart valve without open heart surgery is done by a treatment called transcatheter aortic valve replacement, or TAVR (see illustration), which offers a less invasive alternative with an easier, shorter recovery than open heart surgery.
