Milk does not help heartburn as it contains fat which can actually make heartburn worse and trigger heartburn symptoms.

Low fat milk may help heartburn or non dairy milks but regular milk can stimulate the stomach to produce more acid and increase the heartburn symptoms.

Baking soda in some water can help with heartburn and relieve heartburn symptoms.

When using baking soda to relieve heartburn it takes around a few minutes for the baking soda to relieve heartburn.

Mix 1/2 of a teaspoon of baking soda into 4 ounces of water and stir and then drink the baking soda and water mixture slowly to relieve your heartburn.

Heartburn is a burning feeling that occurs in the throat or chest and occurs when your stomach acid flows back up into your esophagus.

The symptoms of heartburn are a burning sensation in your throat or chest which can last for a couple of minutes to as long as several hours after eating.

Other symptoms of heartburn are bitter or acidic taste in your mouth, burping and pain which can worsen when you bend over or lay down.

Heartburn can be caused by gastroesophageal reflux disease, Hiatal hernia, foods such as fried foods, pizza, fast food and tomato based sauces, alcohol and certain medications such as beta blockers, calcium channel blockers and anticholinergics.

Treatment for heartburn includes taking antacids and other heartburn medications like Tums or Pepcid.

Other treatments for heartburn include.

Eating high fiber foods like green vegetables, root vegetables, and whole grains.

Eating smaller and more frequent meals.

Elevating the head of your bed.

Waiting a couple of hours after you eat before laying down.

And avoiding food and drinks which trigger the heartburn.

If your heartburn continues more than twice a week or gets worse or does not get better then you should see a doctor.

Most cases of heartburn are not serious and will go away with home treatment.
