What does it mean when it thunders in the winter?

Well technically it's not exactly winter as of yet however it's November 30th 2018 and tonight it's actually raining and storming with thunder.

Our weather says a thunderstorm outside tonight.

How often does it actually thunderstorm during winter weather?

I don't remember it every storming during November before but maybe it did and I just forgot about it.

A thunderstorm during winter usually means that a snowstorm is on it's way within a week or two however there's no guarantee that a snowstorm or other winter storm will happen soon after the thunderstorm in winter.

It's not uncommon for thunderstorms to happen during November and the winter months however it doesn't always happen everywhere or every winter.

It was thundering here today as well but no rain yet.
