Red baby syndrome is a potentially life threatening condition which affects babies and young children and causes a sudden onset of a high fever and widespread red skin that is tender and swollen.

Other symptoms of red baby syndrome are irritability and paradoxical crying when cuddled.

The cause of red baby syndrome is the human parvovirus B-19 which is also called slapped cheek syndrome or fifth disease.

No vaccine is available to prevent parvovirus although you can lower your chances of being becoming infected with the human parvovirus by washing your hands often, avoiding sick people and not sharing drinks or foods.

Staphylococcal scalded skin syndrome is a bacterial infection.

In children, the staphylococcal scaled skin syndrome or disease usually starts with fussiness, tiredness, and a fever.

This is followed by redness and blistering of the skin.

The disease can be life-threatening and needs treatment right away.
