Homeowners with credit scores of between 621 and 699 may be able to qualify for a home equity loan however most banks are looking for a credit score of around 700 or above to qualify a homeowner for a home equity loan.

If you've been on time with your mortgage payments then a lower credit score may qualify you for the home equity loan although theirs no guarantee.

If your credit score is below 620 then you most likely will not qualify for the home equity loan even if you've been on time with your mortgage payments.

My credit score was 621 and I got approved for the home equity loan even though it was a painstaking process and I had to wait awhile to hear back and get approved by the bank for the home equity loan.
