Heating your home with heating oil is one of the most expensive ways to heat a home.
I used to live in a home that was heated with heating oil and that house was expensive to heat during the cold months.
Heating that 1,800 square foot home with heating oil costed me around $4,500.00 per year.
With heating oil you have to pay the full amount to fill the heating oil tank each time and not get a monthly bill unless you can negotiate a payment plan with the heating oil company.
Your heating costs will go up if the price per gallon of heating oil goes up which could happen at anytime.
I now live in a natural gas heated home and it costs me around $1,200.00 per year in total and I pay a monthly bill for it.
So with heating oil expect to pay over $2,000.00 per year to heat the home and even more than $2,000.00 per year if the house is larger or not as well insulated.
If your house is currently heated with heating oil and you have the option to switch to natural gas then do so as soon as possible.
If you're looking at a house that has heating oil then I would either get it switched out to natural gas if possible or look into other homes that are heated with natural gas if it's available in your area.
