What's the difference between a thermocouple and a thermopile?

Thermopiles and Thermocouples are essentially the same thing but the difference between them is that thermopiles are a series of thermocouples that convert thermal energy into electrical signals.

The thermocouples that make up a thermopile are connected in series and by using more than one thermocouple in series it increases the voltage output.
