Old dogs get crusty noses as a result of the dogs body producing too much Keratin which are the fibrous proteins which make up the outer layer of skin and causes excessive skin growth which results in the formation of hard, thick, dry and calloused skin.

You can put coconut oil on your dogs crusty nose which is safe and also non toxic to your dog and is a great moisturizer.

You can put Vaseline on your dog's crusty nose which will help clear the dogs crusty nose up and can help keep the dogs nose moisturized and prevent the dogs nose from getting too crusty again.

Vaseline is OK for dogs nose but just don't put too much Vaseline on the dogs nose as they will likely lick it and ingest it which can lead to stomach upset, vomiting and even diarrhea.

Apply a thin layer of Vaseline or other petroleum jelly to the dogs nose and they will be fine and do it a few times a day to keep the dogs nose moisturized.

Things you can put on your dogs irritated nose are lip balm, nose balm, petroleum jelly, coconut oil, Shea Butter and or apply a warm and moist towel to your dogs nose once in awhile if they will allow you.

You can put lip balm on your dog's nose but just don't use too much lip balm on your dogs nose.

Also some lip balms contain the sweetener xylitol which can be toxic to dogs if ingested but as long as you put just a little bit of lip balm on the dogs nose they should be fine if they lick and ingest a tiny bit of the lip balm.

You can also use petroleum jelly or Vaseline on your dogs nose which is less toxic.

It's best to use a lip or nose balm with all natural ingredients.

They also make nose balm for dogs so that it contains all the proper and safe ingredients for dogs.

I have however used and still use regular lip balm on my dog's noses for years and they have not been harmed by it.

Coconut oil is another option to moisturize your dogs nose, as it is safe and healthy for dogs.

You can also try soaking your dogs nose with a warm, moist towel or cloth and then dab a bit of petroleum jelly onto their nose to keep it in good sniffing condition.

The benefits of coconut oil can be just as helpful for dogs as they are for humans.

Organic coconut oil (a key ingredient in many of our products) offers powerful moisturizing qualities for your dog's dry nose, skin, and hair.

Shea Butter is also safe for dogs and can be used on a dogs nose.

Just as humans use shea butter the shea butter can also be used just as safely and as well on dry dog skin.

Shea Butter is totally dog-safe when applied topically in small amounts.

Use the shea butter to soothe dry paws, noses, elbows, and other dry patches.

You can moisturize your hands and your dog's paws at the same time.
