Why does a carpeted floor feel warmer to bare feet?

In my house I have carpet in my bedrooms and in the kitchen I have hardwood floors as well as in the living and dining room.

Whenever I walk on the carpeted floors in my bedrooms my feet are nice and warm during the winter but when I walk barefoot on the hardwood floors my feet get cold?

Why is carpet warmer to my feet than wood floors in a warm house?

With a wood floor your feet are not insulated from the cold so it feels cold.

But the carpet insulates the floors which prevents the cold air from going from the floor to the carpet so your bare feet feel much better and warmer on the carpet.

I love carpet especially during the winter months to keep my feet warm because I love to walk around the house barefoot and not wear slippers.
