An intern and a resident are similar except that an intern is only a first year resident while a resident is for any amount of years and not just the first year.

After resident then comes attending and an attending doctor is someone who supervises and trains residents and interns.

In short the attending doctor would be the doctor in charge of supervising and attending the interns and residents.
