Shoplifters steal laundry detergent mainly to resell such as on the streets or even online in some places.

Shoplifting laundry detergent can be pretty profitable for people who get away with it but eventually most of those shoplifters stealing laundry detergent to resell are caught and face fines and even jail time so in the end it's not worth it to steal the laundry detergent.

Tide Pods and Tide laundry detergent is one of the most stolen and shoplifted brands of laundry detergent and so it's being locked up in most places.

Tide is locked up at Target due to theft and shoplifting.

Many stores including a lot of CVS, Walmart, Walgreens etc are also locking up Tide and other products due to being stolen.

Many people will shoplift Tide and other laundry detergents and resale them for less to make a profit.

Tide pods are one of the most commonly stolen items as they can resell super easy.

And it's not just Tide products that is being locked up at Target and other places.

In some locations where retail theft is high other things including baby formula, underwear, panties, undergarments etc are being locked up.

Both Walmart and Target are now locking up underwear and other undergarments like socks in stores to prevent shoplifting.

Even shampoo is being locked up and even at least at Rite Aid they have started locking up packs of baby diapers because of theft as well.

Even toothpaste and other essentials are being locked up due to retail theft and organized retail theft crimes.

US retailers, including Walmart, Target, CVS, and Walgreens, are placing everyday essentials such as toothpaste and deodorant under lock and key to prevent theft.

The rise in theft, including violent incidents, is attributed to increasing costs of living and organized retail crime.
