Proactiv is called Alchemee now.
The Proactiv Company became Alchemee and released their first line of skincare products under the new name, Restorative Routine.
The company also has said that following the launch, Alchemee will be introducing new brands and products to address common skin conditions like psoriasis, eczema and dermatitis.
In recent years, Proactiv has changed owners several times.
Proactiv was owned by Guthy-Renker, the business behind many of the big infomercial-oriented beauty brands, for years, before being taken over by Nestlé Skin Health in 2016.
Nestlé Skin was taken over by a consortium of investors in 2019, and rebranded to Galderma
The original Proactiv Solution line has 3 products: renewing cleanser, revitalizing toner, and the repairing treatment.
Proactiv+ has 3 products as well, but they are: exfoliating cleanser, pore targeting treatment, and then a complexion hydrator (this is the lotion).
Proactiv+, a reformulation of the three-step kit, was introduced in 2013, and in 2017, ProactivMD launches powered by Adapalene.
As a result of its celebrity endorsements and infomercials, Proactiv is one of the most popular skincare brands of all time, according to the Journal of Clinical and Aesthetic Dermatology.
For some people, Proactiv does a good job of clearing up acne (or at least keeping it under control).
But for others, Proactiv just isn't effective.
The result you get is completely dependent on your skin and the severity of your acne.
If you have mild to moderate acne and have yet to treat it with benzoyl peroxide, Proactiv may be a good option.
But if your acne symptoms are more severe, you may be better off trying a prescription treatment recommended by a dermatologist.
A small group of people may be hypersensitive or allergic to active ingredients in Proactiv such as benzoyl peroxide, salicylic acid or adapalene, which are in some of the Proactiv products.
If you are one of those people, you should not use a product without first discussing use with your doctor.
