When your account is showing transaction not permitted it means and also indicates that a rejection is occurring on the side of the credit card or debit card provider for reasons unspecified.

It does not always mean there is an issue with your card or account but it does indicate that your bank will not approve the transaction so you will need to contact your bank or credit card company.

In some cases it may be an issue with the payment gateway or the banks system or you've entered the Pin number wrong.

Your credit card or debit card can be blocked due to suspicious activity or suspicious transactions when the activity on your credit card is out of normal activity that you normally would not due or when the transaction is deemed suspicious such as paying someone out of the country etc to help avoid any charges that you did not authorize.

Sometimes the computer system mistakenly flags a transaction as suspicious and calling the credit card company can unblock the card and fix the issue.

You can check if your card is blocked by contacting the bank or credit card company or if your card issuer or bank allows it you can check online and sometimes unblock the card yourself but in other cases you will need to have the bank or credit card company unblock your card for you.

Banks block your card for several different reasons such as suspicious transactions, being out of the country, entering wrong pin number, making large transactions that can seem suspicious, withdrawing large amounts of cash from ATM machines etc.

To fix a card that has been declined you should first see if you've entered the wrong billing address or wrong zip code, wrong pin number or wrong security code.

If that still is not the issue then you'll need to contact your bank to find out why your card is being declined.

A card would get declined if you entered the incorrect Zip code, address etc or used the wrong pin number or something is wrong with your card or if you had insufficient funds, wrong security code, problem with payment gateway, card being blocked, account blocked or frozen or being restricted.

A failed transaction does not usually charge you or deduct money from your account although in some cases the failed transaction may still charge you and then return the money to your account or it may be an error that says the transaction was failed but it actually went through.

If a transaction is failed but money is deducted then the transaction may have actually went through and you don't need to do anything.

However if the transaction actually failed but the money still is deducted but the merchant didn't get the money then you should contact the bank or wait a few days to see if the invoice says paid or the money has actually gone through.

If money is debited but the transaction is pending you simply need to wait until the pending transaction clears.

Sometimes a transaction may be pending for a few hours to a few days and then the transaction clears and is no longer pending.

If the money is debited and the transaction is still pending for longer than a few days or a week then you should contact your bank to find out what is going on.

A card being declined when you have money can be a result of several things such as payment gateway error, a hold being placed larger than the transaction, a restricted or blocked account, traveling out of state or overseas, too large of a purchase, incorrect security code, wrong address and or zip code that doesn't match up with the billing address and Zip code of the card etc.

If a debit card transaction is failed then the money is usually not taken from your account although it can be in some cases.

But if the debit card transaction fails you should contact your bank to find out the reason as sometimes a restriction may be put on your card or it may be blocked or it could be an error with the payment gateway.

A debit card declining when you have money can be a result of being in different states and reaching your daily purchase limits.

Or you could've purchased something where a hold is placed on the card for more than what you've purchased.

For example if you purchase gasoline at the pump the debit card will usually have a hold put on it for $75.00 to $100.00 and then it will be released after a few days or so.

So if you don't have at least $75.00 to $100.00 on your debit card it will be declined.

Another reason for a debit card to be declined when you have money is there being a restriction on the debit card or a problem with the merchants payment gateway.

When your debit card is declined but money is still taken it is usually because the bank putting a hold on the charge as pending.

Most pending charges will go away in 5 days to 7 days so the money should be returned back to your account if you had the money in the bank.

The debit card may be declined due to insufficient funds, being restricted, suspicious transactions etc.

Another reason a debit card may be declined but money taken or simply be declined is an error with the bank or error with the payment gateway.

When your bank card is restricted it means that your account is suspended and it freezes your ability to make purchases.

You should contact the bank to find out the exact reason for your bank card being restricted.

Some banks may restrict your bank card for certain purchases and some banks may restrict the bank card for all purchases.

Banks can restrict access to your bank account or even restrict your debit card as well.

If the bank suspects fraud, suspects illegal transactions, suspicious purchases, larger purchases than you normally would, more money being moved between accounts than normal, large checks being deposited from your account etc then they can restrict access to your account and even block or freeze your bank account.

You can unrestrict your debit card by calling your bank and finding out the reason it was restricted in the first place and if they find the restriction was an error or not needed then they can unrestrict the debit card so you can use it again.

A restriction on your debit card or bank account can be due to suspicious transactions, large purchases, suspected illegal activity, creditor seeking payment or through government request.

A restricted bank account or frozen bank account can also be a sign that you have been a victim of identity theft.

To unblock a debit card online go to your checking account online account and then select card controls and select unlock card.

Choose your card if you have more than one debit card and select unlock card to unlock the debit card.

The wording may be different depending on what bank you have but there should be a card control option and lock or unlock card option in your online bank account dashboard if your bank allows it.

If you can't unblock the debit card online you will need to contact  your bank and have them do it from their computer.

When your bank account is blocked you won't be able to move money out or in the bank account nor will you be able to withdraw cash from the bank account or use your debit card or write checks on it until the bank account is unblocked.

A bank would put a restriction on your account due to suspicious transactions, large purchases, suspected illegal activity, creditor seeking payment or through government request.

A restricted bank account or frozen bank account can also be a sign that you have been a victim of identity theft.

You can unrestrict your bank account and debit card by contacting your bank or by going online to your bank account if they have the option.

You can sometimes unrestrict your debit card online as some banks provide the option to remove the debit card restriction online but others require you to contact them.

You can sometimes still use your card if it is restricted but only for certain transactions or at certain places.
