Medications that are used for overstimulation are antidepressants such as Remeron, Desyrel or Serzone, Benzodiazepines and Abilify also known as Aripiprazole.

Overstimulation is when you have a state of becoming overwhelmed by sensory input such as loud noises, smells, sights, tastes touch and sounds.

Overstimulation can happen when your brain is not able to process all the information that it is receiving.

A person can experience overstimulation as a result of several things which include too much caffeine, not having a quiet space to work, lack of sleep, chronic stress, crowded spaces, strong smells, loud noises and bright lights.

When you experience overstimulation it can cause physical symptoms which include.

Panic attacks.

Restlessness.

Difficulty focusing.

Emotional outbursts.

Issues with sleeping.

Agitation and irritability.

Increased anxiety and stress.

Feeling ill, nauseous or faint.

Dizziness or lightheadedness and headaches.

You can help yourself or someone else with overstimulation by doing the following.

Creating a sensory friendly environment.

Practicing mindfulness.

Setting boundaries with other people and asking for some quiet space alone.

Limiting your screen time.

Turning off your phone or putting your phone somewhere else that you can't access directly.

Drawing or writing or reading in a distraction free environment and finding a quiet place to breathe and sit.
