I would recommend installing metal roofing on your home instead of replacing the current asphalt shingles with new shingles.
The metal roofing usually costs a bit more to have a pro install it but it will outlast you and likely your grand kids.
A metal roof will not need replaced for a very long time and holds up better to storms.
And in addition it acts as a fire protector should any sparks or embers land on the metal roof.
When my shingles needed replaced last year I went to Home Depot and ordered some metal roofing for my home and the additional hardware such as the screws and flashing and the cost came to $2,000.00 for a DIY install of the metal roofing.
If I were to replace the shingles with new shingles my cost would've been $3,000.00 for the shingles, roofing nails and roofing felt plus the cost of new plywood for the roof since it didn't have any on this old house.
So I saved $1,000.00 at least on the roofing itself by installing metal roofing instead of shingles and the metal roofing went up faster than shingles would have.
Having a pro roofer install metal roofing can cost more than shingles but it's well worth the extra cost for the cost of doing the roof just one more time and forgetting about it for as long as you live in that house.
