During the first few hours after death a persons body usually becomes very pale and then stiff and as the day progresses the body usually becomes much more stiff.
After 3 to 5 days the body then starts to bloat and sometimes start to smell bad and then soon after will start decomposing.
Also right after death the body starts digesting itself so that's why funeral homes will use embalming fluids to preserve the body to stop the decomposition so that the family can visit the dead person and say there last words to them before burial or cremation.
Below is a timeline of body decomposition.
24-72 hours after death — the internal organs start to decompose.
3-5 days after death — the body starts to bloat and blood-containing foam leaks from the mouth and nose.
8-10 days after death — the body then turns from green to red as the blood decomposes and the organs in the abdomen accumulate gas.
And then Several weeks after a persons death — the nails and teeth fall out.
And last at 1 month after death — the body starts to liquify.
