When you drive for Uber you do need some extra insurance and not all insurance companies will provide the needed extra insurance to drive for Uber or Lyft.
Check with your insurance company to see if they cover you driving for Uber or Lyft because some will and some won't cover it.
To drive for Uber or Lyft you need to have what's called Rideshare Insurance which will cost you a little more on your current insurance coverage but is needed.
If you don't have Rideshare insurance when driving for Uber or Lyft and you get into an accident then your normal car insurance policy will not cover the accident.
So yes you must get and have Rideshare insurance on your car when driving for Lyft or Uber.
