Landlords can only charge you and deduct from your security deposit for excessive wear and tear or other excessive filth.

A landlord by law cannot charge a tenant for normal wear and tear or deduct any money from your security deposit for normal wear and tear.

If the filth or other damage is excessive then sometimes a landlord can charge the tenant and make them pay for those repairs to bring the apartment or home back to good living conditions for the next tenant.

But anything that is normal wear and tear on the apartment that has to be fixed has to come out of the landlords pocket.
