Why did my glass shower door explode?

I was just in the bathroom using the toilet and all of a sudden my glass shower door exploded leaving glass all over the shower.

Thankfully I wasn't in the shower when it happened and now I'm scared to use a glass shower door on my shower.

What could've caused the glass shower door to explode?

Glass shower doors usually explode due to some form of damage that may occur to the glass on the shower door.

Sometimes this damage such as a crack could be there without the person knowing about it and then overtime the crack starts to separate the glass even further then it gets to a point where it shatters.

The reason the glass broke into a bunch of tiny pieces and not shards of glass is due to the glass being tempered.

So although you could get injured taking a shower the most that may happen if a glass shower door shatters into tiny pieces while taking the shower is you'd likely just get a few little scratches or cuts that won't be life threatening.

I had a glass shower door shatter on me when I was taking a shower and although scratched me a little and scared me it didn't do much harm.
