It is worth replacing a drive shaft and most often the problem with the driveshaft is often just the U joints being worn out or a bad carrier bearing which can be replaced on the driveshaft.

In some cases if the driveshaft is actually bent or bad it can easily be replaced for around $200.00 or less when doing it yourself or around $300.00 to $500.00 or so for an auto repair shop to do the replacement.

When you have a bad shaft or bad drive shaft you will experience shuddering and intense vibrations from under the vehicle that make the vehicle vibrate as you go down the road and the vibrations and shaking of the vehicle will get worse the faster you try to go.

Often it's the U Joints or even carrier bearing if you have one that wears out and causes the vibrations or if bolts started coming loose it can also lead to the vibrations or if you have a bent or out of balance drive shaft it will also vibrate and shake the vehicle.

When your drive shaft is damaged you will often know pretty quick as there will usually be a very intense shaking of the vehicle when you accelerate.

Most commonly the problem is not the drive shaft itself but instead worn out u joints, couples or even carrier bearings causing the driveshaft to vibrate.

In rare cases the driveshaft could've been bent even slightly causing vibration such as if you went offroading and went over a large rock or something.

If you notice the vehicle shaking or vibrating as you drive or accelerate you should check the driveshaft and U Joints out or if you have a carrier bearing you should check that out as well.

A bent or damaged driveshaft can cause vibration and noise, especially at high speeds.

The universal joints at each end of the driveshaft can wear out over time, causing a clunking noise when accelerating or shifting gears.

When your drive shaft goes out your vehicle may suddenly lose speed and become difficult to accelerate, making it challenging to maintain control.

And even steering difficulties and handling issues may arise, making it crucial to react promptly and calmly to minimise risks.

As soon as you identify issues with your drive shaft, you must have it serviced and fixed immediately before driving any further.

Your drive shaft is what allows your vehicle to move, and if it suffers any significant breakages, it will be rendered useless at best and dangerous at worst.

Replacing a drive shaft can be an expensive repair, so it's important to take care of any existing issues before they become more serious.

Repairing a drive shaft is not a difficult task if you're mechanically inclined, but it does require some skill and the right tools.

Make sure to do your research and be prepared before tackling a repair on the driveshaft or have an auto repair shop do it.

A single piece drive shaft (rear wheel drive) can be replaced in less than 1/2 hour.
